2015 - 2017 European Migration Crisis through an Ethnological Perspective: Radicalization of the Society and Emergence of Militias in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis concerns with the topic of the European migration crisis, the security aspects connected with this phenomenon and the radicalization of the Czech society. The paper introduces the possible security threats posed by illegal immigration to the countries of the European Union with the emphasis mainly on the radicalization of the European society. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on the topic of militias formed in the Czech Republic and using the method of the terrain research attempts to provide an insight into the attitudes and opinions of those citizens of the Czech Republic who are former or active members of the so called National Militia, a civic initiative which establishment was mainly a result of the migration crisis and which main task is to defend the homes, lives, health and property of Czech citizens and to preserve peace and stability of the Czech society. In the end, the thesis compares the supposed causes of the radicalization of the society with the real motives of the militiamen to join the National Militia identified during field research.
